Relocation group arrives from Greece with IOM's assistance
On 6 June 2017 IOM assisted in the arrival of 13 relocated persons from Greece to Slovenia. Since 2016, IOM has facilitated the safe arrival of 199 persons through the EU relocation scheme from Italy and Greece. Nationals of Eritrea (35), Syria (141), Iraq (17) and stateless persons (6) have been relocated to Slovenia.
By 31 May 2017 20,289 individuals have been relocated to European Union countries – 6,458 from Italy and 13,831 from Greece.
The EU relocation scheme is an expression of internal EU solidarity, through which people in need of international protection are transferred from Greece and Italy to another Member State of Relocation, where their asylum application will be processed. Only those nationalities for which the EU average recognition rate is above 75% are eligible.
