Mediterranean Mixed Migration Flows Compilation Report for May 2018
The report prepared by the IOM Displacement Tracking Matrix team provides a comparative look on arrival trends this and the past year, information about nationality declared by migrants and asylum seekers who crossed the Mediterranean or were intercepted in the Western Balkans, updates on policies and figures on migrant presence in different countries along the Eastern Mediterranean and Western Balkans route.
Main findings of the report include:
- 43,752 migrants and asylum seekers arrived to Europe between January and May 2018
- 44% of all arrivals were registered on the Eastern Mediterranean route, crossing by land and sea from Turkey to Greece
- est. 65,592 migrants and asylum seekers were present in Greece, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Cyprus and Romania
- est. 7,900 irregular entries were reported in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania and Montenegro, a fourteen times more than 578 reported in the same period last year
