IOM Slovenia Joins Global Migration Film Festival
Slovenia – As part of IOM’s Global Migration Film Festival, the IOM Mission in Slovenia held a film screening on 16 December 2016. The event was organized in cooperation with partner organization Association Odnos in Trubarjeva hiša literature in Ljubljana.
The event was part of the Global Migration Film Festival which coincided with the observance of IOM’s 65th Anniversary on 5 December 2016 and concluded on International Migrants Day on 18 December. The festival was a worldwide event with screenings taking place in 90 countries. It aims to celebrate the diversity and unique contributions of migrants to the communities and countries where they live, and pay tribute to the many films that capture the beauty and challenges of migration and bring these realities to audiences around the world. The festival was part of the UN's “Together” global campaign to promote diversity and inclusion.
The screening opened with the videos 65 years of IOM and Together Campaign followed by films Wallah – Je te jure and Limbo, and short films A Letter from a Refugee and Blue. After the screening an informal discussion was opened with participants discussing about “our” and “their” culture, whether we talk about “us” and “them”, and how to overcome this exclusion.
