IOM Holds a Training on Intercultural Competencies for Public Service Providers in Ljubljana
On 9 and 10 June 2016 IOM Slovenia conducted cross-sectoral trainings on intercultural competencies for public service providers in Ljubljana. The trainings were carried out by IOM Slovenia in cooperation with the leading national experts in the field of migration. The training sessions were carried out with funding from a MRF grant received through the COUNCIL OF EUROPE DEVELOPMENT BANK.
Forty representatives of local governmental and non-governmental organizations attended the trainings. The training sessions aimed at improving and strengthening the intercultural competencies of public service providers and at expanding insight into the work of the actors from different sectors working with people seeking international protection and people under international protection.
The evaluation of the sessions was very positive as participants expressed their wish for further collaboration and training opportunities in the area of intercultural competences. The trainees reported they developed a deeper level of understanding of the main migration concepts and the importance of empathy as well as received an insight into challenges and practical solutions public service providers are able to provide in their everyday work.
