IOM Helps Congolese Family Reunite with Father in Slovenia
IOM Slovenia successfully conducted another family reunification to Slovenia in cooperation with the Slovenian Ministry of Interior. The joint action reunited a five-member family from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) with their father.
During the family's travel from DRC via Turkey, IOM Kinshasa and IOM Istanbul provided them with airport assistance. They were reunited with their father at Brnik International Airport on 27th March 2016.
Since 2013, IOM Slovenia has assisted in 15 family reunification cases from different countries, such as: Yemen, Somalia, Syria, DRC, Kenya, Turkey, Ethiopia, Iraq and Iran. In total, 52 family members have safely arrived at Slovenia with IOM’s help. At the request of the Ministry of Interior, IOM assisted with arranging their travel documents, flight bookings and implemented both transit and arrival assistance at airports.
Of the 9,965 separated people that IOM helped to reunite with their families in 2015, the vast majority (99.5 percent) were to countries in the EU, Norway and Switzerland.
