IOM continues to support asylum seekers' access to health care in Slovenia

The European Commission and the International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) Regional Office in Brussels signed a Direct Agreement for the implementation of the project RE-HEALTH2 »Implementation of the Personal Health Record as a tool for integration of refugees in EU health systems«. RE-HEALTH2 is a continuation of the regional IOM project RE-HEALTH »Support to Member States under particular migratory pressure in their response to health related challenges«, within which IOM Slovenia in collaboration with the National Institute for Public Health (NIPH) employed three health mediators to assist asylum seekers accessing health services in Slovenia. The projects are supported by DG SANTE – CHAFEA.

Within RE-HEALTH project e-PHR (Personal Health Record) and platform was developed and piloted in Slovenia, Croatia, Italy and Greece. RE-HEALTH2 will resume these activities in Slovenia in September 2017 to provide further assistance to asylum seekers with the aim to foster their access to quality and timely health care provision. Apart from providing health mediation to migrants, RE-HEALTH2 aims to test further use of the Personal Health Record - a tool designed to integrate migrants and refugees in EU health systems and ensure the continuity of care.

Both projects have received co-funding through the EU Health Programme 2014- 2020.
