IOM Assists Two Iraqi Children Reunite with Family in Slovenia
IOM Slovenia successfully conducted another family reunification to Slovenia in cooperation with the Slovenian Ministry of the Interior. The joint action reunited two children from Iraq with their family.
The children travelled from Iraq via Turkey to Slovenia with IOM escorts in order to enable their safe journey. IOM Iraq and IOM Istanbul provided departure and transit assistance at the airports. The children were reunited with their family at Brnik International Airport on 19 September 2017. The funds for the family reunification were gathered with the support of ADRA Slovenia which organized a fundraising action for this purpose.
Since 2013, IOM Slovenia has assisted in 24 family reunification cases from different countries, such as: Yemen, Somalia, Syria, DR Congo, Kenya, Turkey, Ethiopia, Iraq and Iran. In total, 65 family members have safely arrived in Slovenia with IOM’s help. At the request of the Ministry of the Interior, IOM assisted with arranging their travel documents, flight bookings and provided assistances at departure, transit and arrival in airports as well as arranged escorts for particularly vulnerable persons.
